If your business generates $1M or more in annual sales, yet it depends on you working exhaustively and/or struggling with financials, you have hit the Growth Redline Trap (GRT). Similar to accelerating a car by revving the engine—it works until it doesn’t. At a certain point, the engine (you) can’t go faster and it redlines. The only way to accelerate is by dropping the acceleration, shifting into a higher gear (a scalable model), and then applying the gas.

How does the GRT present itself? In short, the first stage of business, from $0 to $1M, requires a growth approach (do more, get more). This is first gear, where you just crunch down on the accelerator and work your butt off. But then you approach the redline. For some businesses, it happens around $1M; others redline at $2M, $3M, or a bit more. You know you are there when the owner is working constantly and the profits are nowhere to be seen. The next stage of growth, going from the redline to $25M+ in revenue profitably, requires a scale approach (do less, get more).

Breaking through the GRT is the most difficult transformative step a business must make and is the reason that 96% of companies stay stuck at the redline, ultimately burning the engine (you) out. But with the right gear-shifting action you can easily move out of the GRT and on to a healthy, scalable, money-making business.
